The Calgary Stampede is the world's largest annual rodeo, drawing over 1 million people annually and nicknamed "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth." The event's roots date back to 1886 when the Calgary and District Agricultural Society held its first fair. Beginning in 1912, American promoter Guy Weadick organized a rodeo and festival called The Stampede. When he returned in 1919 following World War I, he organized the Victory Stampede in honor of soldiers returning from the war. The modern version of the Calgary Stampede began in 1923 when it merged with the Calgary Industrial Exhibition to create the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. The 10-day event includes: Competitions including bull riding Barrel racing Steer wrestling Tie-down roping Winners receive significant prize money, and the ultimate winner receives the coveted Calgary Stampede Championship buckle, one of the highest awards on the rodeo circuit. In addition to the rodeo, the Calgary Stampede includes a large parade, midway rides and games, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon races, First Nations exhibitions, and various stage shows. An attendee highlight is the Stampede breakfasts held in neighborhoods throughout the city with free food and entertainment. Snoopy's Senior World Hockey Tournament (US-CA): July 12-21

Each summer, Snoopy's home ice rink in Santa Rosa, California, welcomes senior hockey players from across the globe to the Snoopy's Senior World Hockey Tournament. Initially organized in 1975 by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, the creator of "Peanuts," this tournament is an annual tradition. The ice hockey competition attracts former professional and amateur enthusiasts aged 40 and above, offering them a chance to compete in a unique international tournament. Divisions are categorized by age, with the oldest division being 75 and older. The week-long event attracts global teams, including those from Canada, Finland, and Japan, to join US teams to compete in a series of matches. The tournament ends with a championship match, followed by an awards ceremony. Schulz's love for hockey was well-known and evident in his comic strip. The Snoopy Tournament, as it is affectionately called, not only serves as a testament to his love for the sport but also brings together the senior hockey community to celebrate the game and relish in the camaraderie and competition that the Snoopy's Senior World Hockey Tournament offers.

Running of the Bulls (ES): July 6-14

The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, launches the Festival of San Fermin, which runs July 6-14 each year. It is a tradition nearly 1,000 years old, and the actual running of the bulls begins on July 7. Adventure seekers, locally known as mozos, come for the Running of the Bulls. The tradition now runs nine days, with the bulls released at eight each morning. Runners must be in place by 7:30. The run is 825 meters from start to finish and lasts approximately three minutes. For the Spanish people, bulls represent power and life. The mozos wear white shirts and pants with red bandanas on their necks and waists to honor San Fermin. The French beheaded Fermin in 303AD. The festival began in 1196AD, with butchers as the original runners. A rocket signals the start of the run. After the run, mozos enter bars for breakfast.

Nude Recreation Week: July 6-14

Lee Baxandall, a naturist and strong advocate for nude beaches beginning in the 1970s founded The Naturist Society (TNS). August 7, 1976, and inaugurated National Nude Beach Day. In 1992, TNS oversaw the expansion of the weekend event into the seven-day Nude Recreation Week. The event has occurred every year, with various organizations holding several occasions, from trying to break the Skinny Dipping Record to nude days at multiple parks, clubs, and beaches. La Fête Nationale or Bastille Day is National Day in France. It commemorates July 14, 1789, storming of the Bastille, a prison in Paris. Storming the Bastille was one of the first significant acts of armed rebellion during the French Revolution. On July 14, 1790, one year to the day, the revolutionists officially united the French nation. The annual parade in Paris in honor of La Fête Nationale is the oldest annual military parade in Europe.

Mac & Cheese Day, Ntl.: July 14

Cheese-covered pasta, baked to a golden brown crust, food doesn't get much better than that. Macaroni and cheese, or simply mac and cheese, is a universally loved casserole you'll find worldwide. Kraft boxed it in 1937, becoming an instant hit with harried mothers. The actual origin of this dish traces back to the Italians (no surprise there), with some recipes dating back to the mid-13th century. Today it can be either a side dish or the main meal. It simply needs cheese and macaroni, the two base ingredients to be called mac and cheese. What you add to it makes it your own.

Non-binary People's Day: July 14

Non-binary people's day celebrates individuals who do not consider themselves male or female, but both or neither. Katje van Loon spawned the idea for Non-binary Day in a 2012 blog post after discovering on Wikipedia she is non-binary. She proposed placing a Non-binary Day between International Men's and International Women's Days on July 14 and then forgot the blog post. Several years later, she noticed the LGBTQ+ community had adopted her idea from the blog, and they were celebrating and marking the day.

Threatened by pollution, overfishing, and incidental killings, shark populations are rapidly dwindling worldwide. Nearly 100 million sharks are killed annually, an average of 11,000 per hour. Raising awareness on this issue will improve their existing ecosystem and remove much of the stigma these majestic creatures do not deserve.
