Ada Lovelace Day, Intl.: October 8

06:20 AM | -
Augusta Ada Byron-King was an aristocrat in England, ennobled with the title The Countess of Lovelace. But, she was a little bit more than that. Ada was well ahead of her time. A scientist, mathematician, and leader in engineering and technology in the Victorian era, she proved that beauty and brains (and motherhood; she had three) go together. She is a pioneer in the computer sciences, being the first to propose machines that could follow an order of steps to complete complex mathematic equations and other things yet to be discovered. The Countess of Lovelace was born December 10, 1815, and died November 27, 1852. Ada Lovelace Day celebrates women in science, engineering, and mathematics. It's a day to discover the calculating mind women possess and encourage women and girls to pursue careers in math, engineering, and science.

Consider adopting a dog during the American Humane Association's October annual "Adopt-a-Dog Month®." Each year, an estimated 3-4 million animals wait in shelters, hoping for someone to give them a safe and loving home. Most never find a hero to adopt them and are euthanized. If you're considering getting a dog, be a hero and adopt a rescue animal from your local shelter. You'll be saving a life and significantly improving yours. Dogs are amazing, supportive, and heroic companions who can make a huge difference in your world. Dogs are best friends and exercise buddies, provide animal-assisted therapy, and help with challenges. Plus, who doesn't want a fuzzy face to greet you after a hard day at work? Your local shelter is the perfect place to find dogs of every type, size, age, and personality, all waiting for a loving home. Or, if you prefer a particular breed that isn't currently available at a shelter, go online to find a legitimate breed-specific rescue group looking for adopters like you.

Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month: October

06:20 AM | -
October is ASPCA’S Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by bringing home a furry friend from your local shelter and providing a loving forever home. Should you go big or small? The choice is up to you! There is a misconception that you need a big house to have a big dog. That’s a pity because many wonderful dogs fail to find forever families simply due to their size. While these dogs have a lot of love to give, they don’t need a mansion to be happy. They need a pet parent with a big heart who loves them and takes them out for walks. If you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged friend to your family, this is the month to do it. Check with your local shelter for help and programs to bring your new friend home.

Advertising Week, Mexico City (MX-MX): November 5-7

06:20 AM | -
Advertising Week is a conference and the world's premier gathering of marketing & communication leaders. This event occurs in London, Mexico City, New York City, Sydney, and Tokyo on different dates throughout the year. Established in 2004, Advertising Week is a global thought leadership platform featuring the industry's best and brightest. Advertising Week combines inspiring thought leaders with engaging special events and year around content. Advertising Week draws from the brand, agency, technology, startup, media, and broader cultural communities, focusing on critical conversations designed to drive the business forward and influence the global industry. PLEASE NOTE: Treat all televised and venue-specific events (sporting, concerts, trade shows, etc.) as estimated. Several factors can cause an event to move dates at the last minute, including weather, strikes, natural disasters, political upheaval, conflicting programming, pandemics, and current events. Because of this, always verify the event with the promotor before committing resources. LEEP often estimates dates based on the previous year's schedules, as the final dates are only a few months, weeks, or days before the event. If the date is known to be estimated, you will see an (est) following the date in the title.

Advertising, Co-op Advertising Awareness Month: October

06:20 AM | -
Businesses lose millions of dollars each year because they fail to use the cooperative advertising funds (co-op) made available by original equipment manufacturers, brands, and service providers. Co-op funds are used for marketing your business, with most expiring at the end of the year. We're heading into the fourth quarter; use Co-op Advertising Awareness Month to see if your company has any unspent co-op advertising dollars. You just might be surprised. Not sure how to claim them or use them? Every major media outlet, be it print, online, outdoor, events, or broadcast, will have at least one person on their sales staff who is an expert on co-op advertising. Most senior-level account managers will also be experts. Contact the medium or organization you want to market through, and they'll find out if you have co-op funds, help you file the paperwork, monitor the ads to ensure compliance and provide you with the proof you need to get reimbursed. All you have to do is make that call.
