Miami Spice (US-FL): August 1- September 30

06:20 AM | -
Initiated in 2001, Miami Spice is a two-month-long annual restaurant festival in Miami, Florida. Over 200 participating restaurants offer special three-course menus at reduced prices, usually for lunch/brunch and dinner, that showcase the best of Miami's diverse food scene, including Latin American, Caribbean, European, and American cuisines. Miami Spice encourages locals and visitors to explore Miami's culinary experiences at a more affordable price. It is a unique opportunity to try high-end restaurants or new dining spots that people might not usually consider. The official Miami Spice website includes the restaurants participating and the special menus for the event. These vary from year-to-year. Reservations are recommended, particularly at popular restaurants that tend to get booked quickly.

Minority Donor Awareness Day, Ntl.: August 1

06:20 AM | -
Created in 2005 by Clive O. Callender, M.D., National Minority Donor Awareness Day increases awareness of the need for more organ/tissue donors, especially from people of color. It occurs on National Minority Donor Awareness Week's first day, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Each year the annual observance reaches out to minorities and focuses on the various fears and obstacles associated with donation. The campaign's goal is to promote healthy living and disease prevention, increase the number of people who sign donor cards, have discussions with their families about their wishes, and become donors. Minority Donor Awareness Day raises awareness of the behaviors that may lead to the need for transplantation, such as smoking, alcohol and substance abuse, and poor nutrition.

Motorsports Awareness Month: August

06:20 AM | -
AMERICA'S MOTORSPORTS AWARENESS MONTH: CELEBRATING SPEED AND SAFETY Each August, America celebrates Motorsports Awareness Month, a nationwide event dedicated to promoting the excitement and significance of motorsports while emphasizing the importance of safety within the sport. The National Motorsports Coalition (NMC), which comprises various motorsports associations and industry stakeholders, champions this event. America's Motorsports Awareness Month is a thrilling celebration of the diverse world of motorsports, from the technical aspects of vehicle engineering to the heart-pounding competitions that captivate fans. The event seeks to educate the public on the wide range of motorsport disciplines, encourage participation, and highlight the critical role of safety in the sport. WHAT ARE MOTORSPORTS? Motorsports encompass a broad spectrum of competitive events involving motorized vehicles. Some of the most popular types include: Automobile Racing—This category includes various formats such as NASCAR, Formula 1, IndyCar, and drag racing, each with unique rules and vehicle specifications. Motorcycle Racing—Events such as MotoGP, Superbike racing, and motocross fall under this category, showcasing high-speed motorcycle competitions on different terrains. Off-Road Racing—vehicles designed for rugged terrains, including desert racing, rallycross, and rock crawling. Kart Racing—Often considered a stepping stone to higher levels of motorsport, kart racing features small, open-wheel vehicles competing on scaled-down tracks. Truck Racing—This includes racing events for large trucks, such as the Super Truck Racing Series and off-road truck competitions. THE FOCUS OF MOTORSPORTS MONTH Focusing on safety within motorsports is paramount due to the inherent risks associated with high-speed competitions. Ensuring the safety of drivers, crews, and spectators is not just a necessity, but it also enhances the enjoyment and sustainability of the sport. Advances in safety technology, such as improved crash barriers, fire-resistant suits, and sophisticated helmet designs, have significantly reduced the risks involved. Additionally, stringent safety regulations and protocols are continually updated to address emerging challenges and maintain high safety standards. Motorsports Awareness Month plays a crucial role in highlighting these safety measures and promoting best practices among participants and organizers. By doing so, it educates and informs, fostering a culture of safety that prioritizes the well-being of everyone involved in the sport. Throughout August, the National Motorsports Coalition and its partners host various events, including safety workshops, public exhibitions, and live demonstrations. Activities engage fans, educate newcomers, and celebrate the technological innovations that drive the sport forward.

They can be served in countless variations, making them a favorite for their adaptability, satisfying taste, and health benefits. HISTORY OF PANINI The history of the panini dates back several centuries to Italy. The word "panini" is derived from the Italian word "panino," meaning "small bread roll." Pirate Month, Int.: August

06:20 AM | -
Sponsored by the thespian group Rogue's Armada, International Pirate Month celebrates pirates' legend rather than reality. Pirating remains a severe problem in several parts of the world, most notably off the horn of Africa, the Gulf of Aden, and off the coast of India. The World Shipping Council notes: "The issue of piracy against merchant's vessels poses a significant threat to world shipping. In 2011, 439 pirate attacks and 45 merchant vessels were hijacked worldwide. Two hundred thirty-seven of these attacks and 28 hijackings occurred in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Somalia, and in the wider Indian ocean. As of spring 2012, there have been more than 51 attacks off Somalia (121 worldwide), 11 hijackings off Somalia (13 worldwide), and over 158 hostages taken off Somalia. Currently, 12 ships and more than 170 seafarers are being held hostage by Somali pirates for ransom." See the full report: http://www.worldshipping.org/industry-issues/security/piracy. Use International Pirate Month for fun, but also use it, especially if you're a seafarer, yachter, bare boater, or pleasure boater, to learn about piracy and how to protect yourself against it and avoid where it occurs.

Rawgust is a promotion by natural food for pets advocate CATalyst Council, which encourages pet parents to feed their animals a raw diet of real meat (or veggies if herbivores). Pet food manufacturers endeavor to create replacement foods that provide complete nutrition for pets. Raw food enthusiasts insist natural and authentic are always better than manufactured.
