DESCRIPTION:
National High Five Day began in 2002 at the University of Virginia. A group of students set up shop on the campus's main quad and gave out high-fives and lemonade.
The idea spread, and over the years, people of all ages and backgrounds celebrated National High Five Day by giving high-fives to friends, co-workers, and strangers.
So if you're wondering why strangers are high-fiving you in the streets every year on the third Thursday of April, this is why.
