About 1784 is when people started putting ships into bottles. Before that, German artist Matthias Buchinger experimented with objects in bottles beginning in 1719.
This highly detailed hobby requires an eye for detail, patience, and a passion for history. Ships-in-a-Bottle Day seeks to raise awareness of this unusual hobby and the people who fascinate us with their creations.
