Lohri is a cultural festival celebrated in the Punjabi region of India each year by the Sikhs and Hindus. It marks the end of the previous farming year and the financial beginning of the next farming year on the day following. It typically occurs on the 13th of January and features a large bonfire and several foods consumed during the festival including: gajjak, sarson da saag and makki di roti as well as a sweet rice mixed with jaggery and sesame seeds.
