No party, especially no Halloween party is complete without apples, and caramel turns this harvest fruit into candy on a stick.
Caramel Apples are the invention of Kraft food company employee Dan Walker in the 1950s. The fall treat was so successful, by 1960 a machine was invented and patented that allowed for the gooey apples to be mass produced.
Caramel Apples are different then candied apples (invented in 1908 by William W. Kolb in New Jersey). Candied apples are dipped in a red cinnamon sauce which dries clear red and hard. Caramel Apples are dipped in melted caramel.
