National Morse Code Day marks the anniversary of the birth of Samuel F. B. Morse, the American artist, and inventor who designed and developed the first successful electromagnetic (magnetism caused by electricity) telegraph system using a code of dashes and dots in 1836. He called it Morse Code.
Morse was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts April 27, 1791, and died on April 2, 1872.
