Chopsticks have been around for some time and are believed to have originated during the Shang Dynasty (1766 - 1122 BC) and were initially used for cooking. The pointed end of the chopsticks will tell you from which country they originate. Japanese chopsticks tend to have a needle-like point, Chinese have a square point, and Korean styles are somewhere between.
Eating with chopsticks takes a little practice, but once mastered adds significantly to the enjoyment of Asian cuisine. National Chopsticks Day allows you to show your skill and enjoy the ancient utensil.
