Newspaper Columnist Day celebrates the work and life of Ernest T. Pyle, an American newsman who was famous for his ability to make the ordinary and everyday, extraordinary. Pyle won a Pulitzer Prize in 1944 for his coverage of infantry soldiers during World War II. He was killed in combat, April 18, 1945 in Lejima, Japan, age 44.
