The Year of the Parish Revival is part of a multi-year celebration, The National Eucharistic Revival, by the Roman Catholic Church leading to the Jubilee Year of 2025.

The Year of Parish Revival begins and ends on the Feast of Corpus Christi and builds on the foundation set during the Year of Diocesan Revival (2022-2023).

Parishes focus on engaging their communities through four invitations:

Reinvigorating worship through beauty in the liturgy
Monthly "Encounter Nights" celebrating Jesus in the Eucharist
Enhancing faith formation around Christ
Mobilizing Catholics for missionary outreach

Parishes play an essential role in the communities they serve through spiritual and societal support. The Year of Parish Revival seeks to raise awareness of the work and services of parishes while supporting the people they serve.

Ducasse de Mons, Doudou (BE)(1349): May 26 - June 2

Ducasse de Mons (Doudou) is an eight-day festival running Sunday through Sunday, including a Friday night concert, festivities, the procession, Car d'Or, and the fight between Saint George and the dragon Sunday afternoon. On June 2, 1349, Mons, Belgium, managed to defeat the Black Plague when the entire town transported the shrine of Waltrude to the village of Casteau. The villagers considered it a miracle and now celebrate the abolishment of the plague every year on Trinity Sunday since 1352. The Ducasse de Mons is the celebration of that event. Each year a procession carries Waltrude's Shrine through the town, beginning with a torchlight handover on Saturday night. The following morning, the shrine lands in a gold horse-drawn wagon (Car d'Or), which needs to climb a very steep cobblestone hill (Rampe Sainte-Waudru) in one try if the town's good fortune continues for another year. Since the horses cannot do this alone, hundreds of onlookers assist the cart over the hill. Once it crests the hill, legend says the town will be free from significant disasters for another year. The festival concludes with the battle between Saint George and the dragon, the Lumeçon, in the central town square of Mons. Dogs, devils, dragons, and saints, you have to see to believe. Baby Boomers Recognition Day: June 1

Dorothy Zjawin of New Jersey champions Baby Boomers Recognition Day in the US. This event used to occur on the first day of summer. Additionally, there was a previous event of the same name on August 17 each year, and that event's website went dark in 2016. However, the month of August is Boomers Making a Difference Month, sponsored by another group. Until the 21st century Baby Boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, were the largest generation the world had ever seen. They earned their name due to the 'baby boom' that ensued as soldiers worldwide returned home from WWII. Boomers are split into two groups: Premier baby boomers from 1945-1954 and secondary boomers from 1955-1964.

Born in 2020 in the wake of the Black Lives Matter global protest, Black Pound Day in the United Kingdom is a monthly event occurring on the first Saturday of each month (except the first day, which was held in June 2020). The purpose is to ask consumers to support Black-owned businesses on this day by shopping at them or giving their patronage. Musician DJ Swiss created it.

Children Day, Stand For (1996): June 1

Stand for Children Day raises awareness of childcare and safety throughout the US. Over the years, advocates have used this day to rally for reforms in child care. Fairs that focus on the health and the welfare of children are held. In some locations, advocates write petition letters and hold political roundtables. Stand for Children is an advocacy group based in the United States that was founded in 1996 during the Children’s Defense Rally in Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC. Each year various activities are held throughout the country to encourage awareness.

International Children's Day was first declared in 1925 at the World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland. The date varies around the world. In the United States, this event is marked as National Children's Day on the first Sunday of June, as declared by President Bill Clinton in 1998. In other countries, it can occur in May (the third Friday in May for Jamaica) or later in June. The official international date is always June 1st, and China is the largest country to celebrate this event on the first. It is a day to celebrate children's rights and focus on the joy of being a child. The United Nations sponsors a second International Children's Day on November 20th, Universal Children's Day.

Coin Toss Day: June 1

The coin tossing is rumored to have started with Julius Caesar, who, when stumped by a decision, would leave it to the fate of the gods by flipping a coin. Render unto Caesar thy luck? It was his face on the coin! This style of determining a yes or no question, or who wins or loses, continues today. People don't make important decisions by a coin toss, do they? Yes, they do, including: a) How Portland, Oregon, got its name b) Who owned what would become the fastest racehorse in history, Secretariat c) Whether Wilbur or Orville Wright would take the first flight d) Who boarded the plane in 1959 that crashed and killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson, "The Day the Music Died." e) The path to the discovery of insulin by Frederick Banting came down to his winning a coin toss against Clark Noble to become Frederick Banting's assistant in 1921. A coin toss can also refer to tossing a coin in a fountain to make a wish, as is the legend of the Three Coins in the Trevi Fountain. For the wishes to work, you must throw either one or three coins in the fountain. If you toss just one coin in the fountain from the right hand over the left shoulder, your wish to return to Rome will be granted. If you toss a second coin, your wish for a new romance will materialize. Your third toss ensures your wish for a future marriage will come to fruition. Each year the city of Rome earns over one million Euros from the coins tossed into Trevi. There isn't a historical tie between a pivotal coin toss and June 1, so LEEP dug a little to see if perhaps it might be the day Arthur Dempster, Nan Laird, and Donald Rubin published their Expectation-maximization (EM) Algorithm, a mathematical theory with coin tossing at its center, in 1977. It wasn't. Then we thought maybe it was one of their birthdays or death anniversaries. Nope. All three are still alive and well. June 1, it's not even the mid-point of the calendar year, so it isn't numerical. Therefore Coin Toss Day appears to be just that—a day to toss a coin.

Heimlich Maneuver Day, Intl.(1974): June 1

The Heimlich Maneuver was introduced via the Emergency Medicine Journal on June 1, 1974, by a thoracic surgeon and medical innovator, Dr. Henry Heimlich. Though Dr. Heimlich passed away in 2016, Heimlich Heroes continues sharing the importance of his life-saving technique. The Heimlich Maneuver involves using abdominal thrusts to force air from the lungs to expel an object on which someone is choking. Since Dr. Heimlich developed the maneuver, it has saved an estimated 100,000 lives worldwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, choking is the fifth leading cause of unintentional death in the United States. Heimlich Heroes’ mission is to end these preventable choking deaths.
