Which woman named Margarita is responsible for the Margarita (tequila, triple sec, and lime) is debated. What is known is the drink is Mexican and was created sometime in the late 1930s or early 1940s, depending upon which story you believe. It is named after a woman, and its main ingredient is tequila. There are three varieties of Tequila: Gold Tequila, Tequila Anejo, and White Tequila. Gold and Anejo are aged in oak, like wine. Most tequila is produced in Mexico. It is made from the Blue Agave (century) plant and must contain 51 percent of Blue Agave under Mexican law to be considered tequila. On February 22, 1732, General George Washington, the leader of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and the first President of the United States, was born. He led an illustrious career. The words of his farewell address remain relevant in America today, particularly his warnings about showing favored nation status to allies and the dangers of imperialism. "The West derives from the East supplies requisite to its growth and comfort, and what is perhaps of still greater consequence, it must of necessity owe the secure enjoyment of indispensable outlets for its own productions to the weight, influence, and the future maritime strength of the Atlantic side of the Union, directed by an indissoluble community of interest as one nation. Any other tenure by which the West can hold this essential advantage, whether derived from its own separate strength or from an apostate and unnatural connection with any foreign power, must be intrinsically precarious. While, then, every part of our country thus feels an immediate and particular interest in union, all the parts combined can not fail to find in the united mass of means and efforts greater strength, greater resource, proportionally greater security from external danger, a less frequent interruption of their peace by foreign nations, and what is of inestimable value, they must derive from union an exemption from those broils and wars between themselves which so frequently afflict neighboring countries not tied together by the same governments, which their own rivalships alone would be sufficient to produce, but which opposite foreign alliances, attachments, and intrigues would stimulate and embitter. Hence, likewise, they will avoid the necessity of those overgrown military establishments which, under any form of government, are inauspicious to liberty, and which are to be regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty. Wellcat started this Curling is Cool to bring attention to the addition of curling to the Olympic sports line-up. The World Curling Federation describes the origin of curling thus: "Paintings by a 16th-century Flemish Artist, Pieter Bruegel (1530-1569), portrayed an activity similar to curling played on frozen ponds. The first written evidence appeared in Latin when, in 1540, John McQuhin, a notary in Paisley, Scotland, recorded in his protocol book a challenge between John Sclater, a monk in Paisley Abbey, and Gavin Hamilton, a representative of the Abbot. The report indicated that Sclater threw a stone along the ice three times and asserted that he was ready for the agreed contest."

We're unable to determine why today is International Dog Biscuit Day, but we suspect it might relate to the day the first patent on dog biscuits was filed in 1860, as there is no correlation to the birth or death of the inventors. Unfortunately, the UK Historical Patent Office only has patents going back to 1890 in their database, so we'll have to leave proving that theory for another year. Dog Biscuits: a Short History Romans began feeding dogs scraps from the table, stale bread, and other treats. The term dog biscuit originated during the 16th or 17th century in Europe. In 1809 Filt Bennett mixed milk, minerals, and meat together to form the first dog biscuit. He did sell them, but nowhere at scale, so Filt Bennett doesn't get the credit for the biscuits we know today. Credit, instead, goes to James Spratt of Cincinnati, Ohio, who, while in England in 1860, introduced the first commercially produced dog biscuit: Spratt's Patent Meat Fibrine Dog Cakes made of wheat, beetroot, vegetables, and beef blood. Yum? In 1907 things changed again. Fredrick H. Bennett repackaged the dog biscuits into the shape of a bone, calling them 'Maltoid Milk Bones.' They were a tremendous success, and he went from pauper to millionaire rather quickly simply by reshaping the end product. In 1931, the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) bought his company. The rest is history.

Since 1996, Jerez de la Frontera in Cadiz, Andalusia, Spain, has held a two-week festival, La Feria de Jerez, highlighting traditional and contemporary Flamenco dancing. The entire city participates in live theater, pubs, and Flamenco classes for anyone attending. Annually in late winter.
