National Pawnbrokers Day is celebrated on December 6 every year in honor of Saint Nicholas.
Legend has it that Saint Nicholas died on December 6, 343 AD. Also known as Nikolaos of Myra, he was a Greek Bishop of Myra in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). Because of the miracles he performed, he was also known as Nikolaos the Wonderworker.
Saint Nikolaos became the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, students, and pawnbrokers. Hence, National Pawnbrokers Day.
