The United Nations has inaugurated the International Decade for Action, "Water for Sustainable Development," underscoring the vital role of water resources in achieving global sustainability targets.
Occurring from 2018 to 2028, the initiative aims to support and promote efforts that ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. It emphasizes the importance of freshwater resources in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, which calls for clean water and sanitation.
Statistics indicate that billions of people still live without safe water and sanitation access, leading to health crises and socio-economic disparities. As populations grow and climate change exacerbates water-related challenges, the need for comprehensive and integrated water resource management becomes more pressing.
