DESCRIPTION:
National Realtor Day marks the anniversary of the founding of the Association of Realtors May 12, 1908, in Chicago. The organization began with 120 members, 19 Boards and one state association.
The Code of Ethics was adopted in 1913 with the Golden Rule as its theme.
In 1916, the National Association of Real Estate Exchange's changed its name to The National Association of Real Estate Boards (NAREB) and adopted the term Realtor® for its members. This term and its derivatives were trademarked on Sept. 13, 1949, and Jan. 10, 1950.
In 1972 the organization took the name National Association of Realtors® (NAR).
Today, membership has surpassed 1.2 million members with 54 State Associations, including the territories Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
