Delicious, sweet, buttery and nutty, sticky buns have been a favorite breakfast sweet, (or mid afternoon sugar rush) for centuries.
Sticky buns originated in the North Africa and Greece and worked their way through Europe as the Romans expanded their empire. These sweet breads didn’t hit major popularity until around 1688 when German’s and Dutch fleeing war in their region immigrated to the United States, many settling in Philadelphia.
Today if you get a chance to visit the Reading (Pronounced Red-ing) Terminal in downtown Philadelphia, you’ll find an Amish Bakery and several others that continue to make the sticky buns the way they’ve been made for centuries.
Enjoy!
