Created by the US Congress in 2009 and proclaimed annually through Presidential Proclamation, the day following Thanksgiving is intended to heighten support for tribal sovereignty, tribal self-determination, and prosperity for all Native Americans. It’s a highlighted day within Native American Heritage Month, November each year.
