DESCRIPTION:
National Hepatitis Testing Day is an educational initiative of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Division of Viral Hepatitis and the US Department of Health & Human Services to boost screening rates in the US. Throughout the nation, many health institutions offer free or low-cost testing.
It occurs each year in May, designated National Hepatitis Awareness Month since 2009 (previously National Hepatitis Week).
The goal is to highlight the silent epidemic of more than five million Americans suffering from chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C infections.
