Do Only Good Everyday, or "DOGE," is the founding principle behind International Doge Day, created in 2023 by the municipality of Sakura, Japan, and championed by grassroots NFT (Non-fungible token) collectors known as Own the Doge. The day marks the 18th birthday of meme dog Kobusa, better known as Doge, on November 2 each year. A festival of fans is held in Sakura. The expressive pooch's NFT sold for a whopping $4.8 million in 2021 at the height of the cryptocurrency and NFT enthusiasm.

Donate Life Thank You Day (AU): November 16

THANK YOU FOR BEING AN ORGAN DONOR Donate Life Thank You Day is held annually on November's third (sometimes fourth) Sunday. Nearly 900,000, or two-thirds of South Australians over 16, are on the Australian Organ Donor Register. Around 1,400 Australians and their families are waiting for a transplant, with 12,000 people on dialysis. Sixty-five percent of Australians have discussed organ donation with their family, and 69 percent are willing to donate, but only 33 percent of adults nationwide have joined the Register. Last year, organ donation proceeded in 91 percent of cases in Australia where the deceased was a registered donor. Organ donation drops to 52 percent if the deceased was not registered and the family had no prior knowledge of their wishes. Transplant recipients can express their appreciation by writing to their donor's family via their transplant unit. DonateLife de-identifies such correspondence and then provides it to the donor family.

The National Sleep Foundation recommends at least seven to nine hours of sleep to preempt the dangers of drowsy driving. A well-rested driver is more alert and responsive, significantly reducing the risk of highway hypnosis, a phenomenon where drivers zone out, becoming susceptible to accidents. Regular Breaks: The 2-Hour Rule Transportation authorities advocate for the 'two-hour rule,' urging drivers to take breaks every couple of hours or 100 miles. These breaks are crucial for stretching, refreshing, and giving the eyes a rest from the constant focus required on the road. Rest areas and service stations are strategically located to facilitate these pauses, which studies show significantly improve driver alertness. The Buddy System Traveling with a companion can be a lifesaver, quite literally. The 'buddy system' ensures you have someone to talk to, keeping your mind active and engaged. The idea for a day for drummers came about during the creation of the website, which first appeared in 1999. Drums remain crucial in music and date back to at least 6000 BC. Famous drummers include Phil Collins (Genisis), Ringo Starr (The Beatles), John Bonham (Led Zepplin), Roger Taylor (Queen), Cindy Blackman (Lenni Kravetz/Santana), and the legendary Buddy Rich. Dunce Day (1308): November 8

Dunce Day marks the death anniversary of John Duns Scotus, a philosopher, and theologian, in 1308 AD. Dunce caps were originally associated with learning, and Scotus believed that the cone-shaped caps, when worn, channeled knowledge into the brain of the wearer. The Pope honored him in 2010, calling him the "Blessed John Duns Scotus." Today these caps are associated with stupidity, with teachers deploying Dunce caps to embarrass misbehaving and unprepared students.

E-cards are less expensive than traditional cards and have become one of the preferred methods for sending greetings. E-greetings have significantly cut into the market of traditional greeting cards, but they lack the personal feeling and touch physical cards provide. This day has no specific sponsor and is unofficial. Traditionally, today represents the optimal day to mail physical Christmas Cards if you want to ensure they arrive before the Christmas holiday.

American Education Week is the joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education. It is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and student exchange worldwide. It focuses on programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract students from abroad to study, learn, and grow through exchange experiences. Individuals and institutions, including schools, colleges and universities, embassies, international organizations, businesses, associations, and community organizations interested in international education and exchange activities, participate in this event. A personal note from Laura: From 1982-1983 I was a Rotary International Exchange student and spent my junior year of high school in Brazil. To this day, it remains one of the most influential periods of my life. Not only did I get to live in another culture, but it also opened my eyes to the rest of the world. LEEP Calendar is a testament to my love of cultural diversity and would not have been possible without that exchange student experience. Since, I've worked for a multinational company in the Middle East, spent extensive time in the United Kingdom, spoken three and a quarter languages (my Arabic is amusing), and traveled to more than 56 countries. My love of the ex-pat experience and the need to be surrounded by a multitude of cultures creatively and intellectually is a direct result of taking part in a foreign exchange program. It has allowed me to be more aware of issues in the US and more critical of perceived wisdom. There is more than one way to solve a problem, and each culture has its unique positives and negatives. If you have the opportunity to study or work in another country, do it. If you can't, host someone who is. The gift to yourself and the nation is priceless!
