The day is a hat tip to illustrator Jogn Tenniel's interpretation of the Mad Hatter in Louis Carrol's "Alice through the Looking Glass." In his illustrations, the Mad Hatter wears a hat with a slip of paper that says, "In this style 10/6". In the United Kingdom, Mad Hatter Day is celebrated on June 10, as Europeans read dates with the day first and the month second. Who's right? Who cares! Americans celebrate this day as the "Second April's Fools Day" each October. The Brits quietly disagree, preferring to celebrate in June.

Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhong Qiu Jie Festival) in China is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese Lunar calendar, typically on the full moon between September and October. Considered a public holiday and the second most anticipated festival in China, it is known by several names, including the Moon Festival, Harvest Moon Festival, and Mooncake Festival. The festival is centralized on three values: • Family & Marriage • Charity • Thanksgiving Folklore relating to the festival involves the couple Hou Yi, an archer, and his wife Chang'e. According to legend, ten suns rose in the sky, and Hou Yi shot nine down, leaving one to light the sky. Because of this, the gods gave Hou Yi an elixir to immortalize him. Rather than take it, Hou Yi gave the elixir to his wife for safekeeping. However, his apprentice, Peng Meng, attempted to steal the potion from Chang'e while her husband was hunting. Chang'e swallowed it, making her immortal. Rising into the night, she chose to stay with the moon to be near her husband. As a token of love, Hou Yi placed her favorite foods in his yard for her at the harvest moon. This story derives from the tradition of setting out food for loved ones and eating mooncakes. The festival's highlight is mooncakes, the eating and displaying of them within a group. The round shape symbolizes unity and family. The festival is also the time to celebrate marriages, and it occurs in several East Asian countries.

For centuries, people have applied names to full moons to track the seasons and as a point of reference. The names listed below come from Native American and Colonial American traditions passed down through generations. Here are the common names for full moons in each month in the Northern Hemisphere (the Southern Hemisphere doesn't do this tradition): January: Wolf Moon—Named after the howling of wolves during the cold winter nights. February: Snow Moon—Named for the typically heavy snowfall. March: Worm Moon—As the ground thaws, earthworms emerge, attracting birds. April: Seed Moon—Time to plant for the fall harvest. May: Flower Moon—Named for the abundance of flowers in May. June: Strawberry Moon— due to the short harvesting season for strawberries in the northeastern United States. July: Buck Moon—when new antlers grow on male deer (bucks). August: Sturgeon Moon—when sturgeon fish are abundant in North America's Great Lakes. September: Harvest Moon—time to harvest crops. October: Hunter's Moon—game is at its fattest, allowing hunters to stock up for the winter months. November: Beaver Moon—when beavers build their winter dams. December: Cold Moon—long, dark, and cold nights. Full moon names vary between cultures, regions, and traditions; several full moons have alternative names. The above are the most common. A blue moon occurs when two full moons are in a single month, and February is the only month in the year that occasionally does not have a full moon. A blood moon describes a total lunar eclipse.

Noodle Day is a celebration of the life and work of Franco-American author Raymond Federman (May 15, 1928 – October 6, 2009). In his book, "Double or Nothing," he frequently referred to noodles in analogies. He was a beloved writer, teacher, and wordsmith, and his fans created this day. Federman was the sort of person who avoided the conventional opening sentence and would probably hate a conventional eulogy. As an author, his work was called "experimental fiction," "surfiction," "metafiction," and optimistic. Federman was fond of calling it "playgerism." His sense of play led to an inspired Noodle Day. That rhymed, but it was an accident. Honest.
