National Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week, or SubWeek, is five days dedicated to the hundreds of thousands of individuals that fill in for permanent teachers every day in the United States. It occurs the first full school week in May. SubWeek is declared each year by the United States House of Representatives with the purpose of: Bolstering morale with substitute teachers. Fostering a sense of loyalty to the district. Increasing the activity of substitute teachers. Assisting in awareness by permanent teachers of the contributions of substitute teachers. Providing incentives for permanent teachers to keep lesson plans current and interesting. Motivating new individuals to apply for substitute teacher positions. Facilitating a survey of substitute needs and training for the next school year.

Supply Chain Professionals Day: May 18

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) announced the creation of the inaugural Annual Supply Chain Professionals Day in 2018, honoring the professionals responsible for the buy, make, move, and sell activities that comprise the modern supply chain. While National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and National Healthcare Supply Chain Week exist, there has yet to be an official day to celebrate most professionals representing the end-to-end supply chain daily. "Our organization represents thousands of supply chain professionals across the world. The creation of the Annual Supply Chain Professionals Day allows us to recognize this growing and evolving discipline and the professionals who serve within it," said Rick Blasgen, CSCMP President and Chief Executive Officer. The idea for a professional organization of distribution managers (later referred to as logistics managers) was first conceived in May of 1962 to meet an urgent need for continuing education and to provide an opportunity for an interchange of ideas in this rapidly growing profession that has come to be known today as supply chain management. Fifty-six years later, CSCMP continues to serve today's supply chain professionals. Built by members, for members, CSCMP connects, develops, and educates the world's logistics and supply chain management professionals throughout their careers. No matter where you are in your career development, CSCMP has the resources to help you achieve your goals. Tea plays a crucial socio-economic role, particularly in developing countries, where it provides livelihoods for millions of families, generates income and export revenues, and offers employment in economically disadvantaged regions. As a significant cash crop, tea contributes to rural development, poverty reduction, and food security. It also carries health benefits due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and weight loss properties, in addition to holding cultural significance across various societies. International Tea Day, celebrated on 21 May, was established to promote sustainable tea production and consumption, and to highlight its role in combating hunger and poverty. The tea industry's contribution aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including reducing poverty (Goal 1), combating hunger (Goal 2), empowering women (Goal 5), and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems (Goal 15). Enhancing public awareness of tea's importance for rural development and sustainable livelihoods is crucial to contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. However, tea production faces significant challenges due to climate change, as it requires specific agro-ecological conditions. Changes in temperature and rainfall patterns affect tea yields, product quality, and prices, consequently impacting incomes and threatening rural livelihoods. Hence, there's an urgent need for tea-producing countries to integrate climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies into their national tea development plans.

Thyroid Awareness Month is supported yearly by the Australian Thyroid Foundation (ATF) to focus on thyroid health. According to the Australian Thyroid Foundation: "The Thyroid Gland is a small bow-shaped gland, located in the front of the neck, below the voice box or larynx (Adam's Apple) on either side of the trachea (windpipe). The thyroid gland produces hormones that give energy to the body's functions and controls the body's metabolism. When the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone, the consequences cause the body to slow down. When the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, the body speeds, and neither of these reactions is desirable. According to Beverley Garside- ATF CEO, thyroid health is vital to how people function and their body functions. Thyroid Diseases can affect Australians from the very young to the elderly, with women affected more than men. When the thyroid gland is out of balance or diseased, everything from mental health to fertility, weight gain or weight loss, and many other symptoms can be included.
