Greenery Day is a national holiday in Japan originating from the celebration of Emperor Sh?wa's birthday on April 29. In 1989 the name of the holiday was changed from "Birthday of the Emperor" to "Greenery Day." The day provides a reason for people to commune with nature and acknowledges the emperor's love for plants. In 2007 Greenery Day was moved to May 4, and April 29 was renamed Sh?wa Day.

An American, he was vital in reforming the education system in the United States and promoting public education for all. Mann served on the Massachusetts State Board of Education and in the US House of Representatives between 1848 and 1853. He died on August 2, 1859.

Narasimha Jayanti is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil. In the Hindu faith, Narasimha Jayanti marks the fourth reincarnation of Lord Vishnu into half man and half lion. By becoming half man and half lion, Lord Vishnu could end the tyranny of Hiranyakashipu and redirect all people on the path to Dharma. Devotes of Lord Vishnu often observed this day with fasts, prayers, pumas, and offerings of gram sprouts to the god. The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952; however, throughout American history, many official National Days of Prayer have existed. It is non-denominational and not specific to any religion, and Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, Jews, and people from all faiths participate. In recent years atheist groups have created an alternative to this day, known as the National Day of Reason. The constitutionality of the day is regularly challenged on First Amendment grounds. Prayer has played an essential role in the American story and in shaping our Nation's leaders. President Abraham Lincoln once said, "I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for the day." The late Coretta Scott King recounted a tough night during the Montgomery bus boycott when her husband, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., received a threatening phone call and prayed at the kitchen table, saying, "Lord, I have nothing left. I have nothing left. I have come to the point where I can't face it alone." Dr. King said in that moment of prayer, he was filled with a sense of comfort and resolve, which his wife credited as a turning point in the civil rights movement.
