Hindus observe two kinds of Ekadashi: yearly and monthly. Papankusha Ekadeshi is the Ekadeshi of Ashwin Shukla Paksha. Devotees fast for a day. During this celebration, one should worship Padmanabha, the lotus-navel Lord Vishnu. By so doing, Hindus believe one achieves whatever pleasures one desires. Simply by offering humility to Lord Vishnu, the rider of Garuda, one can achieve the same merit gained by performing great sacrifices over time.

Punk for a Day, Day: October 25

Be a Punk for a Day celebrates the music form known as Punk Rock.

Punk rock was popularized in the late 1970s and 1980s by bands including the Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash, and MC5. It greatly impacted legendary artists, including Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie, Green Day, La Dispute, and Tacocat. The format is believed founded in 1966 by James Newell Osterberg, Jr., stage name Iggy Pop when he formed the Detroit garage band The Stooges.

The music grew in popularity primarily due to the strange behavior and screaming lyrics, which resonated with the disaffected of the baby boomer generation of the time. The music's original purpose was to party and avert boredom. Later, it became associated with anarchy, rebellion, and rejection of the mainstream through clothing, style, and action.

It's unsure at this point whether this event is marking a historical event or arbitrary. It occurred at the end of October, near The Stooges' debut concert in 1967. However, we cannot find anything significant attributed to the band or the Punk movement occurring on October 25 between 1966 and today. In all likelihood, this event was declared by fans and became an unofficial annual event.

Raindance showcases the boldest entries of British and international filmmakers. It is a qualifying festival for Oscars®, BAFTA, and BIFA.

Founded in 1992, the Raindance Film Festival combines film training courses and higher education with awards and showings. Workshops cover screenwriting, production, directing, and virtual reality in addition to three fully accredited higher education film programs. The idea behind Sourest Day is that sometimes there are just reasons for us to be sour. Life does give us lemons from time to time. And while most of the time, we are urged by society to constantly put up a face, smile, and pretend to be happy, on October 25, we are allowed to be grumpy, irritable, and sour for whatever reason. If someone has the guts to come and tell you, "Hey, why are you so grumpy? Smile!"

Today, you can confidently tell (or even yell at) them, "I'M CELEBRATING SOUREST DAY!" and move on your not-so-merry-way.

Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day (IL): October 25/26

Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day is a national holiday in Israel that is observed annually on the Hebrew date of 12th Heshvan, which falls in late October or early November. The holiday was established to commemorate the life and legacy of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated on November 4, 1995, by a Jewish extremist opposed to the Oslo Accords, the peace agreement that Rabin had negotiated with the Palestinians.
